Gary Lee "Bluehorse" Artist Bio

Native American artist, Gary Lee, was born February 2, 1957 in Phoenix, Arizona, and is a member of the Navajo Tribe. After spending most of his youth in Arizona, he returned to New Mexico during his teenage years.

 

In 1989 Gary went through a time of many health problems. It was during this time of ill health that he learned the art of Sandpainting and used Sandpainting as a means to support himself. He has continued painting since that time and has been so successful that Sandpainting still serves as his main employment.

 

His unique Sand Art Kachinas and Life-Like Warrior Snow Scenes have made his work very popular. He was featured in "Enduring Traditions", a book showcasing "Art of the Navajo." Gary's work has also been shown at the Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial held annually in Gallup, New Mexico, and he has consistently won top awards.

 

Lee currently resides in Kirtland, New Mexico.
